Pérez Zeledón, located in the southern region of Costa Rica, is a destination recognized for its impressive natural surroundings and authentic atmosphere. Surrounded by mountains, rivers, and tropical vegetation, it is home to Chirripó National Park, one of the highest areas in Central America and a landmark for adventure tourism.
San Isidro del General, its main city, offers infrastructure, services, hotels, and restaurants, as well as easy road access from San José. The area combines coffee-growing tradition, local culture, and Costa Rican hospitality.
In addition, Pérez Zeledón is strategically located near major waterfalls and within short distance of the South Pacific beaches, such as Dominical and Uvita. The combination of mountains, rainforest, and ocean makes this destination the ideal setting to experience GFNY Costa Rica.
GFNY Pérez Zeledón offers a fast course: 120 kilometers surrounded by nature, on a creative course that offers a bit of everything, including some punchy climbs that will provide enjoyable challenges on the road.
The race begins at Hotel del Sur with a short controlled rollout toward the city center. As you leave the urban area, the opening kilometers feature super-fast flat sections where everyone can go full gas, but be careful not to get caught off guard by an unexpected short climb. The course then passes through several urban areas before reaching the main road again and picking up speed once more.
The decisive part begins just after the flat sections, when near Pacuar riders face the first of several sustained climbs that will test perseverance and consistency. At kilometer 70, the course turns toward Santa Teresa de Cajón, climbing from 617 meters to 965 meters above sea level over about 8 kilometers of steady ascent. On the way to the top, you’ll enjoy beautiful views of Chirripó National Park and its surrounding mountain range, while also experiencing the region’s lush nature and green landscapes.
After the combination of climbs, hills, and mountain terrain, the course enters a false-flat section passing through the community of Rivas, before heading into the final kilometers of excitement and descent back to the finish line at Hotel del Sur.
LONG COURSE IS A COMPETITION: Only the finishers of the long course are eligible for category rankings and Overall and Podium awards. If you want to race and be ranked in your category, you must complete the long course. Top 10% of finishers in each age group earn a spot in the Qualifier Corral at every GFNY World event.
MEDIUM COURSE IS NOT A COMPETITION: The riders of the medium course will be provided their start-to-finish time, but will not be ranked by finish time. All finish times will be listed in alphabetical order.
THE JERSEY: All riders receive the official GFNY Pérez Zeledón race jersey, which is mandatory attire at the race. The jersey is designed in NYC and Made in Italy.
CHIP TIMING: GFNY FPérez Zeledón is a timed race. Each athlete has their own timing chip, which starts right after you cross the start line and stops when you cross the finish line. Timing results will be available at gfny.cc/results.
FINISHER MEDAL: Every GFNY Pérez Zeledón finisher receives a medal, no matter which distance they complete. All finishers also earn a “Finish” towards their 3x2026 GFNY medal or the 10x medal. Go to gfny.com/medals for more information on GFNY’s multi-finisher medals.
